Engelse versie 'Center for Remembering 3.11' gelanceerd
De Sendai Mediatheque heeft de Engelse versie van de website 'Center for Remembering 3.11' gelanceerd. Het centrum, dat opgericht is om de reconstructie in het Tohoku gebied van Japan, dat op 11 maart 2011 door een grote aardbeving en tsunami werd getroffen, te registreren en over te leveren aan volgende generaties met hulp van experts en de plaatselijke bevolking. Minister Rosenthal heeft op 18 oktober 2011 een donatie aangeboden aan het centrum om oa een Engelse versie van de website te maken, zodat niet alleen een Japanstalig publiek kennis kan nemen van dit project en de contents.

articles and photos (59 on the Japanese version).
* Please note that this is merely the number at the moment of the launch of the
English version; new contents will be added soon as more translations of data
are completed.

- The English version has been made with the original Japanese website at its
base, but with consideration for those who access the site from abroad.
1. The English version is linked to an online map, enabling to look for contents
from the map and to visualize on which location contents was registered.
2. A timeline from the moment of the disaster until the present has been added
to enable to search when certain contents was registered.
3. By using a video-sharing website (Youtube), it is possible to have the
subtitles of the videos automatically translated to different languages.
Support of the Dutch government
The Center for Remembering 3.11 has received seventeen million yen from the
Dutch government in October 2011 with the purpose of supporting cultural
activities in the affected areas. The donation has been used to implement this
English version of the website, but also to buy technical equipment such as
video-cameras and to provide technical support to the participants in the
program.
The Center for Remembering 3.11
With the Sendai Mediatheque (smt) as its headquarters, citizens, experts and the
staff of smt work together to record the recovery and reconstruction process by
themselves, and to disseminate the gathered records (videos, photos, audio
fragments, texts, etc.). An archive of all the data is also created to pass on
the records to future generations.
At present (end of June 2012) there are over 100 participants, the number of
video clips about 500, photo material amounts to 8500 pictures and the total
views of the material on the website of the center surpasses 530.000 times.
